Youth Camp Leader (YCL) Information
Young Women Camp 2023
Young women who are ages 16 and 17 may serve as youth camp leaders. Their responsibilities should be meaningful and appropriate for their experience, skills, and training. Serving others will help them build leadership skills and strengthen their testimonies. Youth camp leaders should:
- Receive leadership training prior to camp.
- Provide a positive example for younger girls.
- Serve as teachers and trainers at camp.
- Help include everyone.
- Help evaluate camp.

YCL Responsibilities
- Develop Christ-like leadership.
- Spiritually prepare yourself prior to camp.
- Attend all YCL group meetings, both pre-camp and at camp.
- Set an example and be a role model for the younger campers.
- Express positive support for all camp leaders and the program.
- Develop caring relationships with the Young Women and adult leaders.
- Help the Young Women draw closer to God.
- Help the Young Women appreciate and feel a reverence for nature.
- Help the Young Women become more self-reliant.
- Responsible for the well-being and activities of the Young Women you serve; make sure no one is left out.
- Get to know all the Young Women closely.
- Be sensitive to girls who may feel homesick, left out or restless.
- Talk about positive and uplifting things during the week. Don’t share inappropriate jokes or inappropriate personal stories. Refrain from gossiping or put downs.
- Be a role model: project a positive and FUN attitude!
If you are assigned as a level leader:
- Assist assigned Young Women with camp activities.
- Assist with and go on assigned 1st, 2nd and 3rd year hikes.
- Assist Year Counselors in all areas of responsibilities.
- Know where your assigned young women are at all times, and make sure they go places with a buddy; buddy up for hikes too.
If you are assigned to work in a camp department:
- Attend pre-camp planning meetings.
- Help plan and prepare department activities.
- Support the leaders in carrying out activities.
- Assist younger campers and help them have an enjoyable camp experience.
- Remain in your assigned year during daily rotations.
YCL 1s
- Participate in leadership training meetings.
- Present camp theme at pre-camp meetings
- Assist with evening activities as directed.
- Assist with camp music as directed.
- Assist adult leaders in all areas of responsibility.
- Be a role model: project a positive and FUN attitude!
- Plan and carry out daily activities with assigned camp years.
- Responsible for leadership training with younger campers.
- Be a role model: project a positive and FUN attitude!
